Parent Teacher Fellowship
MVP Program

Pasadena Christian School (PCS) relies on its Many Valuable
Parents (MVP) to enhance and enrich our children’s educational
experience by providingassistance to our teachers and staff and
by creating a sense of communitythrough various events.  The MVP Program is
PCS’ volunteer program.  It provides volunteers to support school activities and
promotes parent involvement.

Each family is asked to complete the following number of service hours each
school year:
          20 hours Two parent families
          10 hours Single parent families
          10 hours Preschool families

  • The hours are per family and not per child enrolled at the school.
  • Either spouse or grandparents may volunteer to serve.
  • You may serve at either school (K-8 or preschool), regardless of where your
    children are enrolled.
  • Parents who are also PCS teachers, aides or staff are not required to fulfill
parent service hours as they are already required to serve additional hours
outside the classroom (ie. Family Reading Program, Christmas Shoe Box Project etc.).

Throughout the year there are many opportunities to volunteer and earn service hours:

  • Work directly with children in the classroom
  • Serve as Room Parent
  • Help the teacher as needed
  • Help the children with special projects
  • Plan and serve at class parties (set up, clean up)
  • Chaperone field trips

Plan or serve at a school event

  • Fall Event
  • Christmas Breakfast/Store
  • Jog-a-thon
  • Book Fair & Family Dinner
  • Golf Auction
  • School play/musical
  • Graduation

Provide administrative services

  • Box top processing
  • Magazine drive order processing
  • Jog-a-thon pledge processing

Donate food or supplies for school events

  • Welcome Back Rally
  • Class Parties
  • Teacher treats & lunch
  • PTF meetings/events

There are several ways that you can sign up to volunteer:

  1. At Back to School Night there will be sign up sheets for various events through
out the year. These sign up sheets indicate your interest in helping out.  These
lists will be given to the event coordinators who will contact you as the event gets
closer to confirm that you can still help.
  2. As events come up, event coordinators will send an email asking for volunteers.
These emails may include a link to a website called VolunteerSpot which contains
an online clipboard and allows you to sign up for an event.  You can confirm your
ability to help by clicking on the link and signing up on VolunteerSpot (preferred
method) or by responding to the event chair’s email.
  3. Volunteer opportunities will also be listed in the school’s weekly (emailed) newsletter
with contact information if you’d like to volunteer and links to any VolunteerSpots
will be on the school’s website.

MVP service hours will be credited as follows:

  • 1 hour served in the classroom or at an event =1 MVP hour
  • 1 hour served chaperoning an elementary or Jr. High field trip = 1 MVP hour
  • 1 Preschool field trip (not per hour)   = 1 MVP hour (max 4 hours)
  • $10 spent on food or supplies (including the preschool year end picnic) = 1 MVP hour
  • 2 dozen homemade baked goods    = 1 MVP hour

No MVP hours will be given for the following:

  • Required events (where food/supplies are assigned)
  • Poem Party food/supply donations
  • Elementary Year End class picnic food/supply donations
  • Donations for which a tax-deductible receipt is given (ie. Golf Auction basket donations)
  • Teacher gifts/donations

Parents are responsible for tracking their own service hours using the following
coupon book system:

  • During registration each year, you will be required to submit a $300 check
(for two parent families) or $150 check (for single parent families) post-dated
to June of the following year.  This check will be held at PCS and returned to
you (voided) when your service requirements
have been met or cashed in June if your service requirements have not been
met.  Your MVP deposit will not be pro-rated for partial completion of service hours.

  • At Back to School Night please pick up an MVP “coupon book” which will be
used to track your MVP service hours throughout the year.  We suggest you
keep your coupon book with you either in your purse or car.

  • As you complete your service hours, fill in a coupon in your MVP coupon book
describingthe service and the number of hours served and have it approved by
the teacher, staff, event coordinator or PTF board member in charge.

  • Once you have completed your required number of hours, you may turn in your
coupon bookto the school front office and your post dated check will be voided
and mailed to your home within 6-8 weeks.

  • In the event that your family is unable to or chooses not to complete your service
hours, your post dated check will be cashed and deposited into the PTF general
    fund in June.
