ADVANCED ENSEMBLE – Ms. Christopher
A performance group consisting of brass, woodwinds, strings, and percussion, this class is designed for experienced musicians. Some performance opportunities include chapel and assemblies, Christmas Brunch, ACSI Band Festival, Spring Concert, Graduation and others. Access to your selected instrument is required. A minimum of two years playing experience and/or tryouts required. This elective is a yearlong commitment.
ART – Ms. Hart
Multimedia art. Priority is given to students who have not yet taken this class.
ATHLETIC P.E. - Mr. Pirozko and Mrs. Evans
This class is open to students preparing to play after school sports. It provides an emphasis on competitive sports at the appropriate season. Students who wish to try out for after school sports may sign up.
Timeless Classics – Mrs. Coe-Renner
A semester long elective class similar to a book club. Students will be given class time to read the literature though may need to finish reading at home. Students will be expected to participate in group discussions and projects to aid them in understanding the book and its author. Grades will be based upon students' participation both in classroom reading and discussions and in their demonstration of comprehension. All books will be appropriate for junior high Accelerated Reader and Bible book report credit.
CHEER – Ms. Johnson
This class is open to young ladies who were selected last spring to be on the cheer squad.
COMPUTER 1 - Mr. Williams
This class is designed to build skill, speed and accuracy in keyboarding. Included also are introductory Windows 95, word processing, spreadsheet, data base, desktop publishing, and internet basics.
COMPUTER 2 - Mr. Williams
Prerequisite: 1 semester of computer class in Junior High
This class is designed to develop advanced skills in Windows 95, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and desktop publishing. Students will do supervised exploration of the Internet using Netscape, and study Web site design.
CREATIVE WRITING – Ms Johnson
A lighthearted writing class, students are encouraged to demonstrate creativity in writing children's short stories, poetry and short novels.
CURRENT ISSUES FOR YOUNG WOMEN – Ms. Hart
This class will address issues facing young women, including self-esteem, manners, and personal beauty – both inward and outward.
DRAMA - Ms. Johnson
This class provides opportunities to gain confidence speaking and performing in different settings. Besides classroom work, some of these opportunities may include Chapel skits and the spring Coffee House Theater.
HANDS ON ART HISTORY – Ms. Hart
Art history is exploring art from the past to the present. This new course is designed to teach you about the changes in art over time and how art is created in different places around the world. To help learn more about art’s history, there will be a lot of hands-on projects. (You do not have to be good at art to take this class!)
HOME ECONOMICS - - SEWING - Mrs. Ekstrand
Open to both genders; this class emphasizes sewing materials and patterns.
PHOTOGRAPHY/FILM STUDIES – Ms. Hart
In this course, we will learn about the basics of taking a good photograph. You can use either a film or digital camera. There are a number of photo assignments, so you will be taking photos and critiquing them throughout the semester. Besides taking photographs, we will also be learning about films (movies): like film’s history, why movies are made, and how a moviemaker’s story is told. We will be watching some milestone movies that are historically and culturally significant and we’ll learn how to study and analyze them.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION - Mrs. Evans - Mr. Pirozko,
P.E. classes are designed to provide developmentally appropriate physical activity and conditioning, enjoyment of athletic activities, and the encouragement of team and fair play. MWF P.E. class is required of all students except cheerleaders, who must sign up for Cheer at period 7 T/TH. Students may sign up for additional P.E. with parental approval.
P.E. dress will be required on Friday, 9/8. One set of uniforms (shirt and shorts) is included in tuition, and will be distributed by the P.E. teachers.
SHOP - Mr. Bailey
This class is intended to provide students with training in the safe use of various shop tools. These tools will be used to build a variety of projects in a very "hands-on" environment.
STUDENT COUNCIL - Mrs. Coe-Renner
This class is a leadership training/student activities course for officers elected last spring, and first period homeroom representatives elected this fall. If you are interested in helping plan student activities and building school spirit consider running as your homeroom representative. Only the officers elected last spring may sign up at this time. All others should watch for homeroom rep election announcements.
STUDY HALLS –
Do athletics, music lessons/practice, or church activities impact your quality study time? Consider signing up for Study Hall. It gives you 40 minutes at school two or three times a week, with access to a regular classroom teacher for help.

TEACHER'S AIDE - Selected Teachers
Students that have an interest in working with children, tutoring or supporting teachers with bulletin boards, working in the library or office, and other assigned tasks, are encouraged to sign up for T.A. We usually have jobs available from kindergarten through Junior High. We will meet in the library for the first class meeting to talk about responsibilities and available assignments.
YEARBOOK - Mrs. Ekstrand
Students must tryout with Mrs. Ekstrand and be selected to work in the Yearbook class. The responsibility in this class is to produce the annual school Yearbook. It is a big job, but great experience for serious publication students. Only students who worked on yearbook last year and wish to continue may sign up at this time.
