ADVANCED ENSEMBLE – Ms. Christopher
A performance group consisting of brass, woodwinds, strings, and percussion, this class is designed for experienced musicians.
Some performance opportunities include chapel and assemblies, ACSI Band Festival, Spring Concert, Graduation and others.
Access to your selected instrument is required. A minimum of two years playing experience and/or tryouts required. This
elective is a yearlong commitment.
ADVENTURES IN READING – AR Book Club – Ms. Curtis
This class will help guide and enrich the Junior High AR experience. Students will read and discuss AR books and will
prepare to take AR exams. The class readings will help students fulfill their 7th and 8th grade AR English class requirements.
Students are expected to participate in group discussions which will aid them in understanding the book and its author.
ART – Ms. Hart
Multimedia art. Class focuses on more than just drawing. Other medias explored: papier-mâché, watercolor, oil and chalk
pastel, different techniques using these media are also taught
.
ATHLETIC P.E. - Mr. Pirozko and Mrs. Evans
This class is open to students preparing to play after-school sports. It provides an emphasis on competitive sports at the
appropriate season. Students who wish to try out for after-school sports may sign up.
CHEER – Ms. Johnson
This class is open to young ladies who were selected last spring to be on the cheer squad.
COMPUTER ~ Photo Editing & 3-D Models – (Period 6) Mr. Williams
This one semester class will teach Google SketchUp, a free 3-D modeling program, and GIMP, a free photo editing program
similar to Photoshop (with both programs available by free downloads for Windows and Mac). A home computer with internet
access is required for tutorials and projects outside of class. Limit of 16 students.
COMPUTER ~ Programming in BASIC - (Period 7) Mr. Williams
This one semester class will introduce students to BASIC computer programming language. BASIC sets the foundation for
other more complex programming languages. Projects will start with simple text commands and work up to modifying and
designing simple games. Students are given the software program at the end of the year. Limit of 9 students.
COMPUTER ~ Keyboarding – (6 and 7) Mr. Williams
Learn to type and sharpen existing skills with a self-directed keyboarding program. This class runs concurrently with the other
two computer electives.
CURRENT ISSUES FOR YOUNG WOMEN – Ms. Hart
This class will address issues facing young women: self-esteem, manners, and personal beauty – both inward and outward.
DEBATE – Ms. Curtis
This class is designed to help students become confident and effective communicators. Students will learn the key aspects
of writing and delivering a debate using “parliamentary debate” style. Past students are welcome since the curriculum
changes regularly.
DRAMA - Ms. Johnson
This class provides opportunities to gain confidence speaking and performing in different settings. Students will be
preparing for the Coffee House Theater.
HOME ECONOMICS - - COOKING - Mrs. Ekstrand
Open to both genders; this class emphasizes learning kitchen safety, eating and cooking great food.
HOME ECONOMICS - - SEWING - Mrs. Ekstrand
Open to both genders; this class emphasizes sewing materials and patterns.
LEARNING LABS - Mrs. Mele
Small class student support: directed study halls and study skills instruction.
PAPIER MACHE ART - Ms. Hart
Students will construct objects using the papier mache technique. This technique dates back to 16th Century Europe, and
before that in the Middle and Far East. This is a hands-on class working with raw materials. If you like to get your hands
on cardboard and chicken wire and in gooey paste, this is the class for you!
POP ART – 1960s Style - Ms. Hart
The 1960s was a significant era in our history and has impacted much of the visual art that surrounds young people today.
This hands-on class will explore the impact that the works of artists such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Faith
Ringgold, and others had on our culture. We will explore their lives and work as well as create artwork inspired by these
artists. This is an awesome class and you do not have to be good at art to enroll!
SHOP - Mr. Bailey
This class is intended to provide students with training in the safe use of various shop tools. These tools will be used to build a
variety of projects in a very "hands-on" environment.
SPANISH I - 7TH GRADE – Mrs. Purcell
This TTH class is for 7th graders and will emphasize culture and conversation, giving fundamentals of the Spanish language
to prepare students for high school Spanish requirements. Interesting class segments on home, food, shopping, and jobs
will be used to make learning fun.
SPANISH II - 7TH GRADE – Mrs. Purcell
This TTH class is for 7th graders who have completed Spanish I/7th. The class continues to emphasize culture and
conversation, giving fundamentals of the Spanish language to prepare students for high school Spanish requirements.
Interesting class segments on home, food, shopping, and jobs will be used to make learning fun.

This MWF class is for 8th graders and will prepare students for high school Spanish. Mexican culture and conversation will be
integrated with Spanish grammar and pronunciation. Exciting segments on Mexico, the Mexican people, family, crafts, and
celebrations will make for fun learning.
SPANISH II - 8TH GRADE – Mrs. Purcell
This MWF class is for 8th graders who have completed Spanish I/8th. The class continuies to prepare students for high
school Spanish. Mexican culture and conversation will be integrated with Spanish grammar and pronunciation. Exciting
segments on Mexico, the Mexican people, family, crafts, and celebrations will make for fun learning.
STUDY HALLS –
Sometimes athletics, music lessons/practice, or church activities impact your quality study time. Consider signing up for Study
Hall. It gives you 40 minutes at school two or three times a week, with access to a regular classroom teacher for help.

TEACHER'S AIDE - Selected Teachers
Students who have an interest in working with children, tutoring, or supporting teachers with bulletin boards, working in the
library or office, and other assigned tasks, are encouraged to sign up for T.A. We have jobs available from kindergarten
through Junior High. We meet in the library for the first class meeting to talk about responsibilities, and then assignments are
made as available.
