Missions at PCS

What does that mean?

Every year during the month of January we focus our attention on a ministry that serves God around the world or locally and helps students understand what it means to be a missionary-at home or abroad. As well, the school selects a project toward which students are encouraged to contribute funds. Over the many years of this January emphasis, PCS students, staff and families have helped:

  • to build many houses in Mexico for those in need
  • provide the funds to dig wells at a school and orphanage in Swaziland
  • provide school supplies for children attending the Swaziland school
  • provide funds that were distributed through World Vision and Habitat for Humanity to help with tsunami and hurricane relief
  • provide funds to support microfinance programs in poverty stricken countries
  • provide solar energy and technology to a school in Papua New Guinea
  • selected a variety of projects from Samaritan's Purse Gift Catalog for which to provide funding

Each year a goal is set for the project and students, staff, and students' families work toward meeting the goal that will fund the project.

In addition to the January emphasis students, staff, and families prepare shoeboxes filled with personal, school-related, and fun objects to be sent around the world through Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan's Purse, collect canned goods for a local charity, tab tops for Ronald McDonald house, hold an annual blood drive sponsored by Red Cross and have collected socks, blankets, hats and scarves for the homeless.
