Pasadena Christian School offers a diverse community for students to learn and thrive.

Diversity among students in education directly impacts their performance. Studies show that students work better in a diverse environment, enabling them to concentrate and push themselves further when there are people of other backgrounds working alongside them. This promotes creativity, as well as better education, as those with differing backgrounds are able to collaborate to create solutions.

A recent study in the journal “Child Development” illustrated that students feel safer in school and in life when they are educated in a diverse setting. Students are able to learn about different cultures and backgrounds, allowing them to feel a greater sense of comfort with these differences. That in turn makes them more comfortable with themselves, leading to a deeper sense of safety.

The diversity at PCS extends beyond ethnicity.

PCS is an independent Christian school where there are over 133 different churches represented by the student body.  Students come from various Christian traditions from Catholic and Orthodox churches to all Protestant denominations and nondenominational churches.  Bible is taught at PCS as a core subject, but it is through the partnership with parents that each individual child embraces their Christian faith according to their traditions.

PCS families demonstrate economic diversity.  Over 30% of PCS students receive need based tuition assistance.  Along with multiple child discounts, families are extended an opportunity to enroll their children from preschool to 8th grade.  Parent occupations are diverse with fields in education, medicine, entertainment, customer service, science, ministry, and many others.  Families come to PCS as far east as Duarte, west as Burbank, north as La Canada/Flintridge and south as Monterey Park and Downtown LA.

PCS has diverse learners.  The teachers understand the importance of teaching to the strengths of all their students whether they are auditory, visual, or tactile learners.  Technology and manipulatives are useful tools in the classroom and allow the teachers to demonstrate strategies and close learning. Teachers are engaged and know each of their students on a personal level.  Teaching in a traditional classroom setting with enrichment classes taught by experts, students have the opportunity to explore music, art, theater, digital media and sports.
